Nuncas Marine at Barcolana and Veleziana 2026: where sailing heritage meets a passion for the sea

Nuncas Marine sails in Trieste and Venice aboard Il Grand Bleu
Two iconic Italian sailing events, a yacht with an extraordinary history, and a shared passion for the sea.
Nuncas Marine took part in the 2026 editions of Barcolana in Trieste and Veleziana in Venice, experiencing two of Italy's most fascinating sailing events firsthand.
These occasions offered an opportunity to celebrate our passion for sailing, maritime heritage, and the preservation of classic yachts aboard a truly remarkable vessel: Il Grand Bleu, a gaff-rigged schooner designed by renowned Italian naval architect Carlo Sciarrelli.
Il Grand Bleu: a masterpiece by Carlo Sciarrelli
Il Grand Bleu belongs to the distinguished family of yachts designed by Carlo Sciarrelli, one of Italy's most celebrated naval architects, known for combining timeless elegance, functionality, and outstanding sailing qualities.
Known as Design No. 93, Il Grand Bleu is a gaff-rigged schooner approximately 16 metres long, featuring a steel hull and graceful lines inspired by traditional sailing vessels.
The original concept was to create a comfortable, efficient, and manageable yacht, suitable for cruising, sailing instruction, and charter activities.
Built in 1986 at the Zennaro shipyard in Venice, Il Grand Bleu remains a remarkable example of the perfect balance between classic design, technical performance, and authentic seamanship.
A new chapter through an extensive restoration
After years of sailing across the Tyrrhenian and Ionian Seas, Il Grand Bleu spent a long period in Chioggia, where it became part of the Venturieri association.
In 2023, Race&Cruise took over the yacht's management before acquiring ownership in 2024 and undertaking an extensive restoration project.
The work involved the hull, deck, wooden fittings, rigging, and masts, with the aim of restoring the vessel's full functionality while preserving its original character.
One particularly interesting aspect of the restoration was the introduction of modern materials, such as Dyneema for the shroud lashings, while reviving traditional textile rigging techniques.
This approach demonstrates how innovation and tradition can work together to protect and enhance maritime heritage.
From Barcolana to Veleziana: two regattas, one shared passion
Taking part in Barcolana and Veleziana aboard Il Grand Bleu was a special opportunity for Nuncas Marine to experience the sea from a truly authentic perspective.
Barcolana, set against the spectacular backdrop of the Gulf of Trieste, and Veleziana, with its unique sailing experience through the Venetian Lagoon, are events that celebrate sailing, community, and the enduring connection between people and the sea.
For us, participating in these events means strengthening our relationships with yacht owners, sailors, and enthusiasts who share essential values: respect for the marine environment, dedication to vessel care, and a commitment to preserving the beauty of sailing.
Nuncas Marine: caring for boats and respecting the sea
Our participation in these regattas reflects the philosophy behind Nuncas Marine: promoting a culture of yacht care that combines effectiveness, quality, and consideration for the marine environment.
We believe that the beauty of boating also lies in protecting what the sea gives us through responsible choices and thoughtful maintenance.
The story of Il Grand Bleu, and its remarkable restoration journey, perfectly embodies this philosophy: honouring the past, appreciating the present, and looking towards the future with responsibility.
Two unforgettable regattas, one yacht with an extraordinary story, and countless shared emotions.
Nuncas Marine continues to sail alongside those who love the sea, the art of sailing, and the vessels that carry its history forward.
